Oxygen’s FreePay Programme has been shortlisted for the 2024 Public Finance Awards. The Awards recognise the people, products and services that demonstrate excellence and originality within public finance.
FreePay enables public sector organisations to pay their local small & micro suppliers early for free, accelerating payment to the businesses that need it most.
Small and micro businesses are the lifeblood of the UK economy, but many struggle to get paid. FreePay delivers true social procurement, supporting local economies by treating suppliers fairly and responsibly, and in the process helping public authorities achieve their social value goals. Unlike other products which levy a discount on suppliers, FreePay does exactly what it says: it allows public sector buyers to pay small business invoices early without charge.
Over £2 billon has been paid early via FreePay since the scheme began, helping over 15,000 businesses.
FreePay in Numbers
Many councils are using FreePay to support their local communities, alongside their early payment programmes, which provide benefits to all suppliers. You can learn more about how individual councils are using FreePay here.
