Oxygen Finance Present Their 3rd Annual Local Government Third-Party Spend Almanac

Local authority spend with third parties in England has continued to increase significantly reaching £70bn in 2021, with growth almost doubled. Vulnerable Citizens and Public Health followed by Buildings were the two categories that benefited most from this increase, now accounting for 39% and 26% of total spend respectively.

The 3rd Local Authority Spend Almanac from Oxygen Finance, brings together a view of expenditure across Local Government in England, providing local authorities with crucial information to help them better understand how they are spending. To help councils tackle the climate crisis, the Almanac also provides insight into the estimated carbon emissions attributed to local authority supply chains.

Public Procurement is facing many challenges. Following the COVID-19 pandemic response, the sector now contends with rising inflation, global supply chain instability, and the climate emergency.

This annual publication is designed to raise awareness and open up discussions around how the sector can continue to collaborate to achieve the best possible value, whilst demonstrating the positive impact effective procurement has on communities.

This Almanac covers spend between calendar years 2019 to 2021.
